ack's appearances on the small screen date back to the Golden Age of television. In the late 1950s he started making guest appearances in character roles on dramas and comedies, and would continue to do so for 20 years. To this day, episodes of Columbo in which Jack guest starred are highly collectible. Displaying incredible versatility, Jack was nominated for an Emmy award in both a comedic role, as Oscar North (and the character of Jetman) in the 1967 comedy, He and She and in a dramatic role, as Otis Baker in the 1970 stirring courtroom drama The Andersonville Trial. Jack also appeared on some of the most memorable variety programs of the 1970s, including Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, The Carol Burnett Show, The Julie Andrews Hour and the Dinah Shore Show.

Jack's ability to create unforgettable characters was not limited to television. On the silver screen he will always be remembered for his portrayal of the legendary John Barrymore in W.C. Fields and Me and for his character of Miles Mellough in the Clint Eastwood film, The Eiger Sanction.
